Fanta originated in Germany during WWII, and was named after the German word "Fantasie", meaning fantasy, or imagination.

As a result of the war, Coca Cola syrup wasn't available in Germany, so Fanta was produced as an alternative, by Max Keith, who in charge of Coca Cola operations in Germany.
