That certainly doesn't seem very respectful towards the flag. The flag is a symbol for the country it represents, in this case, Australia. Even if you happen to be from another country I would suggest you avoid that.

There is no country without a national flag.
People who raise and lower ANY national flag won't let it touch ground. Particularly so if they are servicemen of that country. This is an international sign of respect for the flag you serve under, not just American.
