A Mercator map because it is most useful in finding direction. ;)
Most maps are extremely accurate if they are made within the last five years. The most accurate maps you can find are online. They tend to even have maps with closures and places to get the cheapest fuel along your route.
A Mercator Projection would be the best map to show true direction. It is used commonly by navigators of ships and planes because it can clearly show direction.

a GPS is a Global Positioning System and simply locates where you are via satellite maps and helps you to your destination via the same maps...very helpful when you are in a new area...most are very accurate
It is impossible for a flat map to be as accurate as a globe. The Earth is round and only a round globe can put things in the correct perspective.
