Think of a folder as a storage container, in it you can store other storage containers and stuff in general. To make a folder right click with the mouse and select the option 'New' then another dialogue window will come up and you can select the 'Folder' option. Your folder will appear with the text 'New Folder' right click it and select 'Rename' to rename it to something else. To add files to your storage container (folder) drag the icon of the file onto it, or the open folder window and it will appear in your newly created folder.
Formatting can change if you move text into a paragraph that contains different formatting.

Assuming that you are using OS 10.7 or 10.8, your problem is not uncommon. With the release of OS 10.7, Apple hid the location of the Library folder so as to prevent users from accidentally deleting critical files. To access your Library folder, click the "Go" tab on the top of your screen and a drop down menu will appear. You can unhide your Library folder by holding down the 'Option' key on your keyboard. Press and hold down the 'Option' key, and the Library folder will appear in the middle of the drop down menu. Cheers!

Open any folder and from menu bar (press 'alt' key if menu bar is not visible) select Tools > Folder Options. A small pop up window will appear, switch to 'view' tab and find 'Don't show hidden files, folder or drives' under Hidden files and folder option click on it and then click 'ok'. Now right click on the desired folder and select 'properties', in the general tab check the option 'hidden' and click 'ok'. Press F5 once or refresh via right click and folder or file will disappear.
