Why was the migration called the trail of tears?

I don't think you understand the seriousness of this event. First, it wasn't a "migration " (animals migrate people don't) , but it was a forced move of 4,000 people in the dead of winter. They walked from Georgia to Oklahoma in a forced march surrounded by the union army. It was men, women, and children and many died on the way. They were removed from ancestral lands to a reservation in Oklahoma. This why it is called "The trail of tears." Read Black Elk Speaks, and Bury my Heart at Wounded Knee. This was NOT the only event like this concerning Native Americans.
