I would say the fall of Rome. When Rome fell all of government was gone, services and protection from others. The Romans had maintained roads, aqueducts, and had laws. Society literally fell apart and chaos took over. This is when the feudal system took over and strong men began to take over. The knights they employed were a little more than gangs. They would raid, rape, and burn villages.

The date of June 6, 1944, which figured so prominently in World War II, is often replaced by two other terms without any loss of meaning as to what event is being signified. "D-Day" is one of these, while the other is "Operation Overlord". Various other terms can be used, as well, such as "the Normandy invasion" or "the start of Liberation", but "D-Day" is the most typical, and meaningful, synonym.
