Columbus first visited the Bahamas, landing in a place he named San Salvador. He later sailed to Greater Antilles and Lesser Antilles, two other islands in the Caribbean.
In 1774 Captain James Cook sailed through the islands and named it "FeeJee." Despite the fact that Dutch Explorer, Abel Tasman spotted the group of islands first.

The first people to inhabit the Caribbean islands were the indigenous tribes known as the Taíno, Arawak, and Carib. They lived on the islands long before the arrival of European colonizers.
Magellan was an explorer born in Portugal, but sailed for Spain. He was the first European explorer to circumnavigate the world. He named the Pacific Ocean Pacific. Balboa was a Spanish explorer who first sailed the Isthmus of Panama and claimed it for Spain. He was the first to see, not cross, the Pacific Ocean which at that time was called the Ocean Sea.
