What does Bell's Palsy affect?

No, it cannot, because Bell's Palsy, by definition, is a paralysis of facial muscles caused by an inflammation of the Facial Nerve (cranial nerve VII). If any other part of the body is affected, then the condition is not Bell's Palsy. Bell's Palsy is not the only condition or disease that can cause paralysis of the face.

Compression of what nerve causes facial numbness?

Compression of what nerve causes facial numbness from the upper palate to the eye on one side of face only? Probably the trigeminal nerve. It causes a condition called Bell's palsy. If your one eye is drroping and your smile droops on the same side, go to the doctor. There is treatment for this and it won't be permanent. Some doctors now think this is caused by a virus and may give you Valtrex and /or steroids, short term.

Can shingles cause bells palsy?

Shingles can cause Bell's Palsy indirectly. The herpes zoster virus sometimes breaks out into shingles. The shingles may cause blistering in the area of the Facial Nerve (Cranial VII nerve) which controls the muscles on one side of the face or the other. This inflammation, not the shingles, is what causes Bell's Palsy. When shingles and Bell's Palsy are interrelated like this, it is called Ramsey-Hunt Syndrome.

Can shingles cause tinnitus ringing in the ear if the shingles' rashes expresses themselves along a facial nerve such as the trigeminal nerve that runs up the side of your face and around your ear?

I had shingles in my left ear 17 months ago, it has taken me this long to regain movement in the left side of my face. My balance is still off a little, But I do have ringing in my left ear. I never had this before having shingles. I have not been to an ear specialist but plan to go to see if this can be treated. I still have a very tender sore place on my face in front of my ear and nerve pain on the left side of my face.

Can bells palsy make your tongue numb?

Yes, but most likely only one side, as the trigeminal nerve and/or facial nerve do affect the sensations in the tongue.

Where parts of trigeminal nerve enter and leave face?

I am not sure what the question is? I believe you are asking, what part of your face your nerve runs through. It is not called the Trigeminal nerve. It is just a nerve. YOu get Trigeminal Neuralgia, If something is copressing against that nerve, or if the flesh around the nerve is thin. It It goes through your neck, cheek, and the side of your face.

What causes Bell's Palsy?

It is not entirely known. A herpes virus is likely, specifically thought to be the one that causes chicken pox and shingles (in adults). Other herpes viruses might also be the cause i.e. Epstein-barr virus or Zoster. The actual cause is generally an inflammation or injury to cranial nerve VII. The inflammation interferes with the nerve's ability to affect the facial muscles. The cause of the inflammation itself may be any number of things. One common cause is the herpes zoster virus. This virus causes chickenpox and shingles. It does not cause Bell's Palsy. However, shingles in the area of facial nerve may be an indirect cause of the inflammation, if it creates shingles blisters in the vicinity of the facial nerve. The symptoms of Bell's palsy arise from an inflammation of the seventh cranial nerve, otherwise called the facial nerve. Each side of the face has a facial nerve that controls the muscles on that side of the face.It happened not long after I was sick and I've had it for over two years . Doctor thinks it will never go way completely .Herpes virus is the most commonly accepted cause. It is thought to be the herpes virus, specifically the one that causes chicken pox and shingles. Other herpes viruses might also be the cause i.e. Epstein-barr, Zoster. These viruses lay dormant in the root ganglia behind the face and casue various conditions (like Bell's Palsy) during any immuno-compromised condition like stress, fatigue, or other disease/sickness.
