The Galapagos Islands
The most famous islands that belonged to Ecuador were perhaps the Galapagos Islands, which contained organisms that inspired Charles Darwin, a visitor of these islands in 1835, the idea of natural selection.

The Galapagos Islands were to my knowledge the only islands studied extensively by Charles Darwin.
The Galapagos Islands are very popular. Ecuador is also home to many impressive volcanos (both active and inactive). The most famous volcano in Ecuador is Cotopaxi. The summit of Chimborazo (Ecuador's largest mountain/volcano) is actually the furthest point from the center of the earth, eclipsing Mt. Everest. Ecuador is unique in the sense that it has beautiful beaches, impressive mountains (Andes) and encompasses the Western most region of the Amazon basin.
Galapagos is owned by Ecuador and is located around 600 miles from Ecuador in the south Pacific. Galapagos is very famous for the Giant Galapagos tortoise and the adventure sports.
