"The Nature Boy" Buddy Rogers was awarded the WWWF World Heavyweight Title on April 29, 1963. Lou Thesz had defeated Rogers for the NWA World Heavyweight Title on January 24th of that years but the move was not agreed upon by the WWWF who split from the NWA and formed their own company. Rogers was awarded the title with the explanation that he had won a tournament to earn it but he never won it in a world title fight.
