The Balkans (or the Balkan Peninsula) is located in Southeastern Europe.
Julius Caesar was the person who conquered much of western Europe.
No continent was part of the Byzantine Empire. Originally the Byzantine Empire had territories in parts of three continents: southeastern Europe (the Balkan Peninsula), part of western Asia (Turkey, Cyprus, Armenia, northern Iraq Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and Palestine) and part of north Africa (Egypt and eastern Libya Later the Arabs conquered the countries in western Asia south of Turkey and Egypt and eastern Libya The Slavs conquered much of The Balkan Peninsula. At this point this empire covered parts of two continents. Later still, the Turks conquered Turkey and this Empire was only in one continent, part of southeastern Europe.

The Muslims took a lot of territory during the Crusades. However they never conquered Gaul, which is now part of France, and that stopped them from progressing into Europe.

Muslims successfully conquered all of the Middle East and North Africa. They also controlled large swathes of Southeastern Europe, the Iberian Peninsula, Central Asia, and the Indian Subcontinent. Islam spread to other regions (like Sub-Saharan Africa and Indonesia) through primarily peaceful methods.
The Muslims conquered the Iberian Peninsula, although not completely, but very close. They were eventually pushed out (with every non-Catholic) during the Spanish Reconquista.
In the medieval period, Muslims were primarily in the Middle East, North Africa, West Africa, Eastern Coastal Africa, Southeastern Europe, parts of the Indian Subcontinent, and the Indonesian Archipelago; roughly the same as their distribution today (sans immigration to the Western World).
