These animals are called invertebrates. Invertebrates have no backbone. Examples of invertebrates are insects.

The body of a sponge is covered in tiny openings called pores. These pores allow water to flow in and out of the sponge, which helps the sponge filter out food particles and oxygen from the surrounding water.
The smallest group of invertebrates are sponges. They live in the ocean, fresh water ,lakes. and streams. Some things attach themselves to other things so they can get food.
