Cardiopulmonary (or more commonly known as cardiovascular) exercises- they exercise your heart & lungs; hence the name cardio (heart) pulmonary (lungs) exercises. This would include running, walking, cardio videos, dancing, etc.- anything that makes you breath hard and fast (heart rate of at least 120 bpm) for a relatively long period of time (1 hour at least). One exercise most people don't consider is just holding your breath for as long as you can. Doing this over and over again will cause your body to build up a tolerance of not having air when it needs it (essentially exercising your lungs and heart without exercise). You will eventually be able to perform more work (exercise) with less energy (air/blood flow).
