Really rather depends in what sense you mean 'affects'.

By definition, hereditary traits are inhereted from our parents (or parent in the case of some types of organism), and therefore one would not expect (in most cases) to see any environmental effect in hereditary traits or features when comparing a parent and offspring.

This may not be the case in certain circumstances, such as if a parent or parents have been exposed to radiation, certain mutagenic chemicals etc, in which case the DNA inhereted by the child may have been altered in the parent's body prior to conception of said child.

If one was to consider long term effects, such as looking at the evolution of a species, then the environment plays a more significant role, as those specimens of a certain species who are best adapted to the environment will be more likely to prosper and pass on their DNA, so the environment in which they dwell may drive the evolutionary path of a species in a certain direction.

nature versus nurture, heredity is in your geneology their no way to change it accept your lifestyle choices-drinking-smoking and doing drugs will effect all organs musles and brain functions leading down the path to cancer, heart attack, stoke, emphysema, hallucinations, depression, sucidal thoughts and so on, eat healthy exercise and get a geneology test done of your immediately family to see what if any "dieases" carry over to your blood line. grandparents-mother and father of both and siblings-slao stepmothers and stepchildren as well as aunts and uncles-with or without children.
