I am experomenting with batteries for a science fair project. The cell that worked best was the "bleach cell" which produced 1.7 volts. The anode is aluminum. The cathode is Copper. The electrolyte is liquid bleach. However, the answer to this question is the vinegar battery. But, if you use vinegar as the elestrolyte and copper and zinc as the electrodes the zic will "burn out" after only a few hours. Thanks

Does higher voltage mean longer battery life?

Yes The larger the battery, the more voltage the battery has.

What causes voltage on 1999 Saturn sl2 to go from 12.2V to 14V at random times?

The cause is the voltage regulator within the alternator (working normal). When the voltage higher it is charging the battery like after you start your car or have the headlights and wipers on. The voltage regulator keeps your battery charged up. In order to charge the battery, voltage must be higher than battery voltage.

Can you charge a 12volt battery with a 6volt charger?

NO, a 12 volt battery cannot be charged with a 6 volt charger. To charge any battery, the charging voltage has to be, at least, slightly higher than higher than the voltage of the battery. Current flowing through the battery is what accomplishes the charging, and no current will flow at or below the voltage of the battery to be charged.

Does the size of a cell battery indicate a lower or a higher voltage?

No

Can a 12v solar panel charge a 12v battery?

If the 12 volt solar panel output voltage is always higher than the 6.5 watt battery voltage. To charge a battery, a voltage greater than the battery must be applied to the battery, otherwise the battery will try to charge the charger.

Why does a lime battery produce more voltage than a lemon battery?

Higher acid / lower pH in limes

Is a 12v car battery the same as a 12v lantern battery?

Voltage is the same but amp hour capacity of the car battery is much higher.

Can you charge a battery with solar panel producing 245 watts?

You can't charge the battery with those 245 watts unless they are being 'pumped into' the battery at a higher voltage than the battery puts out. If you can exceed the voltage of the battery, that 245 watts will definitely charge a battery.

What is the purpose of the cell in batteries?

The cells are the individual units that provide voltage. In a battery, several of them are connected in series, to provide a higher voltage.

How to control Battery voltage?

In an automobile the battery voltage is controlled by a regulator unit wired along with the battery. It limits voltage and protects lamps as well as electronic devices from higher voltages obtained when a fresh battery is charged to its full capacity. A battery is usually rated at 12 volts but when charged it may have a voltage of 12.6 to 13.2V. A regulator is also needed during charging by the alternator since at higher RPMs the alternator may deliver voltages in excess of 17 to 18 volts.

Will a higher than rated voltage applied damage a battery I didn't realize but tried to charge a 12 Volt battery with 20-22 Volts.?

Yes. The higher voltage will boil the electrolyte away if left on long enough. Whether your battery is damaged depends on how long it was left on the charger.

Can a 0.9V 400MA solar panel be used to charge 2 AA batteries?

To charge a battery, the charger voltage must be higher than the battery voltage. If a AA battery (or any other) has a normal voltage of 1.2V the charger voltage must be at least 1.2V. The type of voltage supply and its current capability is immaterial. No, the charging voltage have to be larger than the battery voltage, to charge 2 AA batteries, that is 3 volt if connected in series, so a voltage of at least 4 volt is needed
