How does reading banned books support stereotypes?

In and of itself, it would not. However, if you belong to a certain distinguished group and do so, others may try to make a connection between your group membership and the activity of reading banned books. If you are young, they will say that you are doing so because you are young and don't respect authority. If you are Liberal in your politics, some will say it is because of your liberal ideas or because you hate your country. If you are Conservative, others may say you like reading hate speech. So regardless of your group, if someone has negative feelings for it, and if you read banned books, they will find a way to use that as an excuse to demean your group.
