Immigrants, particularly from Ireland, Germany, Russia.. (Europe and Asia basically) came to America to escape their current economic situation back in their home land, wanted religious freedom, or sought greater opportunity in America. For example, the Irish came because of a horrible virus that infected their potato crop and wiped out their staple food. Germans came to escape their crumbling economy.

If they can provide proof of work or a job offer, we should give them visas. They are benefiting our economy if they are working (and of course buying our goods). Visas can be renewed, but after they expire the immigrants must return home. This way, we keep up our reputation of being somewhat humanitarian, but we make sure that the immigrants are not just doing nothing and costing us money.
Economics and the hopeof social justice.
When immigrants came into the U.S. they had to enter through ellis island or angel island because if the immigrants tried to just run off they would have nowhere else to go

It is where one person or group's language and/or culture, come to resemble that of another person or group's. This happened most notably in the New World with the waves of immigration (from the Colonial era to present). The only group that was not assimilated were the "Birds of Passage" or Chinese immigrants, whom were the most different, and referred to that since they only came to work, get money, and return home with their families.
European immigrants easily assimilated into American culture, while Asians did not, due to their differences in culture and appearance with the American people. European immigrants also came to work and live here, while Asians came to work and earn money for their families back home, they were known as the "Birds of Passage".
It depends how the immigrants got here - and what skills they brought with them ! If they came here legally through due process, and brought a skill that is needed - then yes they do - HOWEVER - if they came here illegally in the back of a truck, JUST to get a 'better life' than that had in their home country - then no they don't.
