Its somewhat of a misprint but if your comparing the .280 and the 30-06 then its apple to apples. They both have almost identical ballistics with the same run of the mill 150 gn. bullet. One advantage I see is you can get heavier loads for the 30-06. They also might be easier to find in stores if your not a handloader. If your referring to the 30-30 Winchester then your comparing apples to Oranges. The 30-30 has a much lower velocity, bullet energy and trajectory. Although it is an American standard for short range deer rifles, its not quite what the .280 is. FYI most of the major ammunition manufacturers of ballistics tables and comparing charts free to use. I like Federal's interactive download! Good Luck

What company manufactures a rifle in the 280 rem caliber?

Many do, but, not all the time. You will have to call to find out.

Is a 280 Rem. rifle a good caliber for hunting whitetail deer in North Carolina?

Yes. I own a Ruger M77 Hawkeye in 280 Rem. It plain levels whitetails out to 200 yds, with a 140 gr. bullet. My only suggestion is that if you don't reload, start. 280 Rem is not as popular as the 270 Win or the 30-06 Sprfld, so ammo is not as readily available.

What is a 722 Remington 223 serial number 367655?

Are you sure you have a Remington model 722 in .223 caliber? These bolt action short action rifles were chambered in 222 rem,222 rem mag,243 win,244 rem,257 Roberts,300savage,or .308 win.only.These bolt action rifles were made from 1948-1962 which is before the .223 rem cartridge exsisted.I believe that your rifle was rechambered at some point in time before you owned it.I would have a gunsmith take a casting of the chamber to be sure.I own a model 722 Remington in 300 savage caliber and I love this rifle.Good luck with yours.
