All dogs are able to be good family members but it is entirely up to the human involved. Dog Breeds were designed with a specific function in mind. Dogo's & Corso's are hunters and guardians. So they will naturally be more incline to protect. A person choosing either of these breeds should be familiar with pack structure, dominance, and obedience. It is impossible to say one breed is better than the other for it is all subjective. Choose the dog that you think you can train to be the family pet that you seek. The shelters are full of fine pure bred dogs that had owners that were clueless as to how to raise a dog. If you choose a dominant dog you better be able to establish yourself as the leader, and that does not mean using anger or force to become the top dog. Man versus dog does not usually go well physically, especially with a dog that was breed to fight and kill its prey! Both of the breeds you list are capable manstoppers! ---------------------------------------------- I have bred both of these breeds of dog. When properly socialized and mastered/dominated, they are both great protector dogs. I prefer the Dogo temperment to the Corso's as I feel the Dogo is more even and patient. In addition, the Dogo does not require special protection/guard training as it will guard instinctively. One of my Dogos sleeping in my children's bedroom (ages 10 and 7) at night gives me great peace of mind.
