On the Desktop market the race is close but for MOBILE processors, take Intel every time.
I made the mistake of buying an Athlon AMD laptop to find out later that its built in memory controller clock speed is 333 MHz, making it unable to properly utilize any kind of modern RAM. Also, the L2 cache is nearly always lower with no more than 2 MB that Ive seen. Intel dual cores have 3MB-6MB cache (not the pentiums) and generally clock higher speeds as well and hasn't got the hard coded memory limit.
So unless your AMD is 3 or 4 years newer, don't even consider it.
If you do a price search, "equal" performing AMD cpus generally cost 30% less than their supposed Intel counterpart. There are real reasons for that.
On the flip side, AMD is definitely cheaper! :)
ATI vs nVidia however is a MUCH closer match, though ATI series numbering can be tricky.
depends what its in the turion is a mobile processor so if ur gettin a laptop get the turion, if ur gettin a desktop get the athlon
No doubt that amd turion x2 is better than athlon x2. So, I would suggest you to go for turion. But I want to know if core 2 duo is better than the turion x2. Any suggestions.
The processor speed of the Toshiba Satellite A355D-S6930 AMD Turion X2 Ultra Dual-Core Mobile Processor Laptop is 2.1 GHz.
Turion
It depends if they have the same socket or not, which they usually don't. It also depends if your motherboard supports it or not. Check the manual and it should have a list of supported processors and speeds. This also depends if your laptop allows you to change the processor. Some are soldered on.
AMD is cheaper than Intel ...
Windows 7 is capable of running on any x86 or x86-64 compatible processor that runs at at least 1 GHz. This includes late-model Pentium IIIs, Pentium 4s, Core, Core 2, Pentium Dual-Core, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, Xeon, Athlon XP, Athlon 64, Athlon 64 X2, Phenom, Turion, and Opteron processors.
Turion for the fact that Turions' are energy efficient so you can go longer on the same battery charge compared to a phenom.
Turion. The sempron is, i believe single core and that for me counts it right out. advantages of the LE sempy are its low energy useage- ideal for a back up PC or other unit that's left on 24/7, other than that go for the Turion. I take it this is for a laptop choice?
Depends on what their Clock Speed Is, Clock Speed Is measured in GHz, the higher the number the better the processor. For Instance an Intel Core 2 Duo could have a clock speed of 2.00 GHz and that would be better than a AMD Turion Clock speed of 1.73 GHz.
No its getting a new processor it is called the Central Processing Unit CPU and it is the brains of the computer, it is what makes the computer run programs. Ex of Processor Intel Pentium Dual-Core or AMD Turion getting a new and improved processer makes your computer run faster.
Each of these names refers to a different line of chips with different architecture. . The Core 2 is the latest from Intel and currently holds the lead on performance and performance-per-watt for consumers. The Core was the short-lived successor to the Pentium M line of low-power mobile CPUs. The Pentium D was a stop-gap solution to AMD's dominance in dual-core processors, superseded by the current Core 2 line. The Turion 64 X2 is AMD's line of dual-core mobile processors directly competing with Intel's Core and Core 2 mobile lines. . What the guy above said is pretty much your answer. The same goes for Desktop processors too. You can think of core 2 duos as the true successor to the pentium dual cores really, dispite the couple of less popular models in between. They operate similar but faster and better thanks to their improved archtecture. The AMD x2 chips are dual core chips from intels rival AMD. They usually have less cache than the equivelent intel pentium chip but can in most cases hold their own against their rival. AMDs are usually a little cheaper to replace too. Though Pentium chips usually perform a little better when involved with any kind of file or audio / video compression or encoding. Most laptops containing pentium dual cores will be upgradable to a core 2 duo as the socket is the same. My Laptop has a pentium dual core in it and it is pretty nifty. Just dont get a celeron if you dont want a slow machine. Tech guys... Check out Intels new i7 chip for the future of processing technology. --- NeoTech
