Each of these names refers to a different line of chips with different architecture. .
The Core 2 is the latest from Intel and currently holds the lead on performance and performance-per-watt for consumers.
The Core was the short-lived successor to the Pentium M line of low-power mobile CPUs.
The Pentium D was a stop-gap solution to AMD's dominance in dual-core processors, superseded by the current Core 2 line.
The Turion 64 X2 is AMD's line of dual-core mobile processors directly competing with Intel's Core and Core 2 mobile lines.

What the guy above said is pretty much your answer. The same goes for Desktop processors too.
You can think of core 2 duos as the true successor to the pentium dual cores really, dispite the couple of less popular models in between. They operate similar but faster and better thanks to their improved archtecture. The AMD x2 chips are dual core chips from intels rival AMD. They usually have less cache than the equivelent intel pentium chip but can in most cases hold their own against their rival. AMDs are usually a little cheaper to replace too. Though Pentium chips usually perform a little better when involved with any kind of file or audio / video compression or encoding.
Most laptops containing pentium dual cores will be upgradable to a core 2 duo as the socket is the same. My Laptop has a pentium dual core in it and it is pretty nifty.
Just dont get a celeron if you dont want a slow machine.
AMD turion 64 x2 is better than amd athlon 64 x2 if you want good graphics, gaming and small computing
actually, no its not. The Athlon 64 X2 is a much better processor in terms of performance. the only benefit that the turion has is that it can conserve battery power better in a laptop. generally speaking you will find turion processors in laptops, and athlons in desktops. if you can find a laptop with an athlon i would suggest you get that over a turion if you are not concerned about battery life and more about performance. :D
turion x2 dual core is more efficient and good for laptop computers because it conserves energy use by the laptop battery while athlon x2 dual core not but athlon x2 is more on speed and gaming requirements
Yes. You should be able to use an AMD Turion 64 in any Socket 754 motherboard.
No doubt that amd turion x2 is better than athlon x2. So, I would suggest you to go for turion. But I want to know if core 2 duo is better than the turion x2. Any suggestions.

No difference, both are same.
Zero. In general, the difference between any number and itself is zero.
no
