They are different video formats.
.mpg, one of a number of file extensions for MPEG-1 computer files
.mov, filename extension for the QuickTime multimedia file format
.avi, Audio Video Interleave, a multimedia container format
You could convert videos between formats
That is an invalid comparison, at least in the sense of how you want it answered. The extensions ".avi" and ".mov" refer to the file's container. Beyond the container lies the real information, a compressed video file that may be in several formats. For instance, a "trailer.mov" really might be an MPEG-4 video file, or an MPEG-2 video file, in a ".mov" container. The same applies to the ".avi" container. Containers are used because it gives flexibility to the author of a production. He or she can have a single video source and several audio sources (different languages) in the same file, lending to convenience.
AVI and MOV files are video files. AVI stands for Audio Video Interleave. MOV is an apple format of a movie file.
Try *.AVI (Windows Video) or *.MOV (Quicktime Movie)
AVI

Depends on your converter, make sure you have selected the right options. But the most likely cause is that you don't have a proper AVI player. The one I use is VLC player (windows media player is not very good at playing avi files).
If you mean you're trying to watch .avi files on a camera that only supports .mov then just render out the .avi in a video editing program to the .mov codec. Not that hard.
Popular opinion suggests that you should save a video as an MPEG4. Alternatively, you can choose to save the file as an AVI, WMV or MOV.
You will need a software tool that changes the format from mov to avi. Acethinker Video Converter is the best video converter as well as mov to avi converter. You can download it and have a try. If you Google it you will most likely find plenty of such tools.
