This may be fine for some people, but for those looking for a fast-track option or who do not want to waste money on extra courses not related to their career goal, a technical school specializing in nursing may be a better option. These technical schools also often have close relations with the career fields they offer, possibly helping you to find an internship, job, or residency after graduation.
At the same time, if you don't know what you want to do, a university or a college is best. This especially goes for large universities, because the wide variety of courses allow you to explore your interests and help you define your career goals. In addition, traditional colleges offer bachelor's, master's, and doctorates that technical schools will not be able to provide, as most give out associate's degrees. If you are seeking a more advanced degree, it is also probably best for you to attend a college rather than a technical school.

Such advantages allow students to thrive in an environment that truly submerges them in their area of specialty related to technology and science. Most technical schools are much smaller in student enrollment and campus size than average colleges and universities. Technical institutes are usually two or four year schools, just like other higher education institutions. The most distinguishing feature of a technical college is that it offers a limited number of programs which are very specific. This means that students must apply to these schools with a concrete idea of what their major or degree program will be. Another unique feature of a technical institute is that there are minimum general education requirements, which means that students almost immediately start taking courses relevant for their degrees. Engineering and architecture are some of the most common types of majors offered at technical colleges. Such degrees are extremely specialized and require specific facilities such as labs and studios. Most colleges and universities have limited engineering and architecture programs because they lack the proper facilities in which students can get real hands on experience. Since laboratory related experience is crucial to any technical education, technical colleges rarely offer online degrees. I've been a teacher and a student at both technical and community colleges. So I've seen things from both sides. Essentially the difference is in the main focus of the school. Technical colleges are mostly geared towards the "technical" fields--computers, autmotive, welding, medical, electrical, construction, etc. So they're basically trade schools that train you for a specific industrial trade. By contrast, community colleges are geared for broad training in a wide variety of fields, technical and non-technical. But are shorter and more concentrated in the major than a 4 year college or university. Now this is the basic difference. However, there are many technical colleges that offer training programs beyond technical fields. In other words, some technical colleges focus on just providing training in a particular trade, such as Medical Assistant or Mecical Records. Others offer a variety of technical programs and non-technical programs. For example, you can get a degree in Network Security or in General Business. However, one HUGE difference between community and technical colleges is this. Community college credits are 100% transferrable to 4 year schools! So if you take a business or science class at a community college, you know it's transferrable if you decide to go on for a Bachelor (4 year) Degree. But with classes at technical colleges, most of their credits are not transferrable at all. In other words, if you decide to go to a community college or a 4 year school, then those credits generally won't transfer over. Another difference is that most community colleges only offer 2 year degrees--Certificates to Associate Degrees. Technical colleges can offer this, plus 4 year Bachelor Degrees and even a Masters. Now as far as the quality of training goes, you can get quality training from both. In other words, you have your good and bad schools out there. But with community colleges, they're all part of the state college system. So they're all considered public colleges owned by the state. This means they're primarily state-funded. But with technical colleges, they're usually private. This means they're owned by corporations and are mainly privately-funded. THIS IS NOT COMPLETELY CORRECT!!! community college credits do not transfer 100% of the time. you have to do the transfer curriculum to make sure they are going to be able to transfer your credits!

Therefore, the coursework and degree completed through this institution will be recognized by all other colleges and universities as well as employers. ****** I would disagree with what the previous poster said. Just because a school is a member of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools does not mean that other member schools will accept credits. Many schools will not accept credits from on-line and/or for-profit schools. If you just want a teaching degree so you can teach you should be fine, however if you want to go on to graduate education or into the business world, it will not be competitive with degrees from traditional institutions (but is still much better than no degree at all!)
