Can a convicted felon go to technical school?

Yes, a convicted felon can go to almost school. The exceptions are, convictions involvng sexual assualts, pedophile, acts of violence or any charges that would require you to register as a sex offender. Now the real issue is wheather you can use the degree after you obtain it. If it is a professional degree, you may have problems becoming licensed by the state. Or just as bad,... not being able to find employment in your chosen field because of the NCIC records.

What is the history of the Washburne Trade School?

I attended Washburn Trade School from 1990 to 1991. I took the chef training program, which was 22 months, and consisted of five phases: 1) intro to french cooking, 2) soups salads and appetizers, 3) pastries and baking, 4) entree's, and 5) advanced cooking techniques.

other couses offered were auto-mechanics, auto-interior, painting, electrician, refrig & a/c, and others.

Washburne Trade School was indeed on Sedgwick and Division. My family owned Kay's Department Store at 333 W. Division St. which my father and some of his war WWII buddies opened somewhere around 1947. I actually went to it for a week, in 1954, after I graduated from Manierre Elementary school on nearby Hudson St. I transfered to Waller HS. Washburne Voc. was located across the street from the Cabrini Green projects at the time, and it was a very violent place. It was also across the street from the Oscar Meyer meat company. They also nade a movie about it years later which I believed was called Coolidge High (which was what they renamed Washburne.

washburne trade school was located on division street and the corner of sedgwick. as the name implies it was a trade school, some of the trade courses were linotype shop, typesetting, auto shop, chief training, typing etc. the Chicago tribune and the sun times sent some of their employees to washburne to further their edication in their field.

I believe Washburne was on the corner of 26th and Kedzie. Although abandoned, the signage is still visable.

Washburne was later rename Edwin G Cooley, the movie "Cooley High" was made in 1975. The area itself was made up of mostly Italian/Americans and start changing to African/Americans in the early 50's, by the late 50's The Cabrini Ext. were builted to supplement The Cabrini Row Houses

Washburn trade school was originally the "old" Lane Tech, until Lane moved to the new building currently at Western and Addison. I believe that the famous swimmer Johnny Weismiller went to the old Lane Tech.

How good of a school is ITT Tech?

In terms of academic excellence, I personally have not heard anything about this school whether it be positive or negative. However, there are a number of issues that concern me, and should concern you. First, it is a "for-profit" institution (meaning it is a business mentality). This in itself does not concern me, but when you couple that with the fact that the ITT Technical Institute (ITT) does not have a regional accreditation; red flags start to raise. ITT is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools. Thus, unless the institution has special articulations with other colleges and universities; their credits will not be accepted in transfer should you decide to at a later date. In addition, not having a regional accreditation may also promote some problems when attempting to secure a position within the work force where a degree is required. Lastly, ITT was under a Federal investigation in 2004. The grand jury subpoenas facilitated searches in a number of areas to include procedures in admissions and recruitment, salaries, retention, transfer credit, etc. The recommendation would be to stay with regionally accredited colleges and universities. Can I go to a technical school for massage therapy?

There are a few technical schools that offer massage training, as well as some community colleges, but the best place to learn massage is still in private schools. They might cost a bit more, but the level of education is usually much higher because most of the faculty are experienced professionals. If you want the best out of your education, check with the American Massage Therapy Association for qualified schools in your area.

Who long do you have to go to school for to become a ultrasound tech?

Diagnostic medical sonography is an occupation where there is no preferred level of education and several avenues of education are widely accepted by employers. Although no level of education is preferred, employers do prefer sonographers who trained in accredited programs and who are registered.

Education and training. There are several avenues for entry into the field of diagnostic medical sonography. Sonographers may train in hospitals, vocational-technical institutions, colleges and universities, and the Armed Forces. Some training programs prefer applicants with a background in science or experience in other health care professions. Some also may consider high school graduates with courses in mathematics and science, as well as applicants with liberal arts backgrounds, but this practice is infrequent.

Colleges and universities offer formal training in both 2- and 4-year programs, culminating in an associate or a bachelor's degree. Two-year programs are most prevalent. Course work includes classes in anatomy, physiology, instrumentation, basic physics, patient care, and medical ethics.

A few 1-year programs that may result in a certificate also are accepted as proper education by employers. These programs typically are satisfactory education for workers already in health care who seek to increase their marketability by training in sonography. These programs are not accredited.

The Commission on Accreditation for Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) accredited 147 training programs in 2006. These programs typically are the formal training programs offered by colleges and universities. Some hospital programs are accredited as well.

Certification and other qualifications. Although no State requires licensure in diagnostic medical sonography, organizations such as the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) certify the skills and knowledge of sonographers through credentialing, including registration. Because registration provides an independent, objective measure of an individual's professional standing, many employers prefer to hire registered sonographers. Sonographers registered by the ARDMS are Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (RDMS). Registration with ARDMS requires passing a general physical principles and instrumentation examination, in addition to passing an exam in a specialty such as obstetric and gynecologic sonography, abdominal sonography, or neurosonography. Sonographers must complete a required number of continuing education hours to maintain registration with the ARDMS and to stay abreast of technological advancements related to the occupation.

Sonographers need good communication and interpersonal skills because they must be able to explain technical procedures and results to their patients, some of whom may be nervous about the exam or the problems it may reveal. Good hand-eye coordination is particularly important to obtaining quality images. It is also important that sonographers enjoy learning because continuing education is the key to sonographers staying abreast of the ever-changing field of diagnostic medicine. A background in mathematics and science is helpful for sonographers as well.

Advancement. Sonographers specializing in one particular discipline often seek competency in others. For example, obstetric sonographers might seek training in abdominal sonography to broaden their opportunities and increase their marketability.

Sonographers may also have advancement opportunities in education, administration, research, sales, or technical advising.

How do you open a new management college in a village?

I will assume that the village is a real village in one of the United States. With that assumption: You will first need to obtain a license from the board of education in the state of operation. The official regulatory body is usually a commission for private colleges and schools under the state board of education. Applications can be obtained from each state's commission. The license process is comprehensive for a reason - to protect students. Generally the license requires that you demonstrate viability from an academic, infrastructure and financial standpoint. Therefore, the license application will require information on academics (curriculum, faculty, etc.), infrastructure (facilities, staff), finances (sufficient financial resources, budgets and financial plans), institutional planning, etc. Once the license is approved that is just the beginning. You would open under some provisional approval. You must have sufficient resources and plans for marketing (who will attend your school and why, and how do you let them know you are there?), admissions (how do you help a student determine if you are the right fit for them?), financial assistance (how can students pay? more on that below), staff to process this all, a campus management computer system to track it all, faculty to teach the students, classrooms, computer labs, a library, student services, operations and maintenance, a financial management system, etc. How can students pay? This is one of the most critical points for a new institution. It will take about 5 years to pass all the regulatory hurdles to obtain federal financial aid approval, which provides reasonable access to grants and loans and allows students to pay for the education at your college. In the meantime, you must obtain approvals from one of only several private loan companies so that your students can finance their education. These private loans are credit-based, and therefore it is very difficult to receive loan approvals. Families often need co-signers on the loan and you need a very strong financial services person to help them find a way to pay. They may have few other options unless they can pay cash and you will need a scholarship program to help them pay. What is really critical is that you maintain sufficient "financial stability" criteria each year (through student enrollment, or revenue growth, and expense management) that you continue to receive license renewals each year - again this is the state's function to protect the students. What you strive for in addition to financial stability is sufficient institutional quality planning and process implementation that proves your worthiness for a grant of accreditation, which is another step in the regulatory compliance process. Once accredited, you must pass more intense financial scrutiny to obtain approval from the U.S. Department of Education to participate in "Title IV" Federal Financial Aid programs. This last step is so critical to the long-term growth and success of the institution.

Is high tech institute a good school of choice?

Well, first of all...making a blanket statement that credits will transfer to other regionally accredited school is incorrect and uneducated! Just because a school holds regional accreditation does not mean that credit will transfer! The rule is "its always up to the receiving school to decide on the award of credit" Even if you attend a community college..there is no guarantee that your credits will transfer. Especially if you are taking tech or career focused education.

This question is really about the individual and choice! The world is made up of many different people with different educational needs. Seeing that there is good and bad in everything, blanket statements like this can be perceived as narrow and misleading! We need to be very careful of that!
