Although rumors say Windows Vista is terrible for gaming, I have found Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit Edition to be good at gaming. Recent games like Crysis perform well in this OS. However, old games like Starcraft and Red Alert II are very hard to use on it. Macintosh offers a good OS, but with a mac you have alot of compatibility issues with Windows and there are limitations to games you can play on the system. If I remember correctly, a 64-bit OS can hold up to 32gb of ram. However I am certain that Macintosh can hold up to 32 gb of ram.

I'd say almost any operating system would be pretty good. I know some gamers that are really into it that have Windows 7. I personally, find Windows 7 good for gaming. If the computer is a new computer it's usually pretty good for gaming.
