Yes - The Corolla has a 4-speed transmission. Toyota has stated that as the 4-speed is very reliable and the mileage from the car is still very competitive they saw no need to change the transmission. Toyota fuel economy still very good.
Hyundai seems have more frequent service intervals for the cars.
i had a 2003 Corolla that went over 150k with no major issues and now have a 2010 Corolla LE which is running very well. The 2010 is pretty quiet even if not having all the latest technology updates.
Wife has a 2007 RAV 4 with 50k which has also had no issues to date.
If you maintain a Toyota it will usually serve you well though would never describe my cars as exciting.
Never had a Hyundai but seem to be producing great cars now. Waiting to see the long term outlook on build quality of the current Sonatas and Elantras as they reach 100k.
