The three types of colonies are:Corporate ~ Proprietary ~ and Royal.
Royal Colonies were ruled directly by the King of England. Many original Charter Colonies surrendered their charters to become Royal Colonies.
There were proprietary colonies, which were basically land grants given to individuals or small groups. There were also chartered colonies, which were land grants (or charters) given to private companies. Lastly there were royal colonies, meaning that the Crown had complete control over governmental actions (they appointed the governor and the council). Often chartered colonies became royal colonies after their charter was revoked. There you go (=
King George declared that the colonies were in the state of rebellion!!!!!!

King James chartered a few colonies in North America.
Royal Colonies were ruled directly by the King of England. Many original Charter Colonies surrendered their charters to become Royal Colonies.
Charters were the first means of governing the 13 colonies. Each colony had a charter that stated that it was governed by either the British Parliament or directly by the king.
King George III
Charters were like a contract. A King could grant a charter to a group of people, or just one person, to establish a colony in the name of Great Britain. There were certain terms that made up the charter and it was a legal document. Charters were also given to Joint Stock Companies, like the Virginia Company, which also established colonies to make money. Some charters granted the colonists political rights in their colonies. The Declaration claimed that the King was taking the legal charters away from the colonists, thus making them subject to the Crown rule without any representation in the government of the colony.
You've got it backwards. The kings did not exist for the colonists. The colonies existed for the king.
