David
The nation of Israel began with Jacob (also named Israel), the grandson of Abraham, the Biblical patriarch. They were a nation who God showed favour to, because God made a promise to make Abraham a great nation. He delivered them as a nation from Egypt, and led them to Canaan, a promised land. The nation of Israel was a Theocracy (a nation under God) until they begged for a King. God gave them a king, (King Saul) succeeded by King David, Solomon, and many others. The nation of Israel was a picture of the Christian church that was to be formed as God's people after the incarnation of the Son of God, Jesus. Therefore after Christ died and rose from the dead the nation ceased to be God's called nation and instead all who beleived in Christ are accepted as God's nation, spiritually, although they are still under other governments and laws, as long as those laws do not contradict God's law (the 10 commandments).
