You can mulch with almost anything. Please consider mulching with your fall clean up leaves and grass clippings. These are Mother Natures protectors of the plants and they break down into the most wonderful black nutrient rich soil money can not buy.

The difference between hay and straw as mulch lies in straw being cleaner and having fewer seeds in general and fewer weed seeds in particular.
Hay is hollow and makes good bedding for horses. But i need to know what are good characteristics of good straw for stable management.Please help x

Hay has nutritive value; straw does not.

It depends on the use. For mulch, straw is probably better since it carries less possibility of plant disease and may carry fewer weed seeds. For feed use for organic dairy production, hay is a much higher quality feed since straw has virtually no nutritive value.

Straw is hay and hay is grown. There were large acres of hay grown.
They can, but mostly prefer grass or good hay over straw.
Because straw is harder than hay and straw will get stuck in the digestive system because it is too thik.
A straw is used for many things but mostly drinking. If you drink with a straw, it won't damage your teeth. Straw in the sense of dead hay, (similar) then it can be used as bedding, horse food, kindling, thatched houses etc.
