A good quality analogue instrument is probably as accurate as a digital instrument, but the digital instrument is more robust, has no movement so is not affected by gravity, and is easier to read.

∙ 14y agoIt all depends the complexity of design and cost to manufacture: it could be + or - 0.1% for an expensive meter down to maybe as much as + or - 5% inaccurate for a cheap one.

On an analog meter, it would be much easier to read and more accurate if you use the smaller scale of the DCV20 setting for a 2.5 volt reading. On a digital meter it may not be such a big deal, because the display would probably show the actual voltage readout...depending on the meter. Generally, though, use the smallest setting on the multimeter you can without going below the voltage being read.
