Depending on the time period you are referring to, the Minuteman 3 is and was the primary ICBM operated by the US for the 20 years or so.

Hellfire like the missile? HELicopter Launched, FIRE and forget. Which is a strange name for a laser guided missile...the idea is, you put a cavalry scout on the ground with the laser designator and a crew in the Apache. The scout aims his laser at the thing you're trying to remove from the battlefield. Once the Apache locks onto it, the missile is fired and the helicopter crew departs, leaving the scout to guide the missile in.
