The Moon. After the Moon, Venus, when she is visible. Right now (October 2010), Venus is hard to observe, or can't be observed at all; the brightest object in the night sky right now is Jupiter.

Our sun is by far the brightest object in the sky, and the moon is the second brightest. After this, the International Space Station is the next brightest object, when it is in the right place. The planets generally come next, with Venus appearing the next natural brightest object after the moon. Sirius is the brightest star, other than our sun.

Heavenly objects (bodies) are objects visible in the sky. It was first thought most if not all objects in (outer) space emit radio waves and other forms of energy. However, later it was realized many objects failed to emit radio waves. These were called Quasistellar Objects or QSOs. Contracted to quasars, the latest research indicates that only 1% of the quasars discovered have detectable radio waves.

If the moon is up, the moon is the brightest object in the night sky. After the moon, the planet Venus is usually the brightest object in the night sky. Sometimes it appears near morning and other times it appears near sunset. For these reasons it is often referred to both as the "morning star" and the "evening star."

What you are probably referring to is Mars.

Addition by Fireholder (13/03/2009) - Actually, I believe it is Venus. Soon, it will be the International Space Station, once they've fitted the 4th Solar Array.
