The best example of cooperative autonomic effects is seen in controls of the external genitalia. Parasympathetic stimulation causes vasodilation of blood vessels in the external genitalia, and is responsible for erection of the male penis or female clitoris during sexual excitement. Sympathetic stimulation then causes the ejaculation of semen by the penis or reflex contractions of the vagina during an orgasm.

The Parasympathetic Nervous System is a branch of the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS), like the Sympathetic Nervous Sysyem. The ANS is concerned with controlling all the functions of you body that you do no want to have t obe thinking about constantly, like keeping your hear beeting or your stomach churning. The two braches parasympathetic and sympathetic are usually in contrast. The sympathetic nervous system is activated when the body percieves itself to be in danger. Thy parasympathetic branch brings heart rate back down to a resting level and rediverts the bloob back to the grastrointestinal tract from the skeletal muscle.
