driving the Germans and Italians out of Africa
Well, there was of course the Nazis (Germans), there was also Italy, Japan and various other countries in eastern Europe. The Italians - although there was a little opposition to the alignment at times. Also, the Japanese. Hitler had a non-aggresion pact with Russia at the beginning of the war that he later reneged on.
The fighting in the war officially began in 1931, when Japan invaded Manchuria and began fighting Chinese forces for control of the province. Most of the world, however, recognizes the official beginning of World War II as in the early morning hours of September 1st, when the Germans invaded Poland.
It was in violation of the Versailles Treaty
Poland :<
When Hitler came to power in 1933 he began to build up the German military. There were certain restrictions placed on Germany at the end of World War I with regard to the strength of their military. Hitler intentionally violated several of these restrictions. His whole purpose was to "right the wrongs" imposed on Germany after WWI. Even if that meant starting another war in Europe, and that is exactly what he did, that was World War II.
