controlled substances are regulated by federal law. and trazodone isn't one of them.
It's ironic, but one of the chief causes of insomnia is actually insomnia itself, or rather, the stress and anxiety attached to insomnia. Studies have shown that what really keeps you up during a bout with insomnia is that thought running through your head: "Why can't I get to sleep!" So one of the easiest ways to beat insomnia is to ignore it. Read a book, do some doodling, watch a movie, and stop worrying.
I would not suggest taking two sedatives together.
sleeping pills
Two trusted sources of insomnia cures are WebMD and The Mayo Clinic. Both of these websites offer insights into the causes of insomnia and provide information about cures for the problem

primary insomnia, which is defined as difficulty in falling asleep or remaining asleep that lasts for at least one month.
No worrying about insomnia does not do the damage, the sleep deflict accompanied by it does. However worrying about insomnia can cause what is know as a vicious cycle which basically is the stress cause by worrying about insomnia can cause stress which is a cause for insomnia. Having Insomnia>Sleep Deflict> Worrying about Insomnia> Having Stress> Having Insomnia
First, trazodone has one distinct advantage-and possibly a few others. It's generic, so it's considerably cheaper than many of the other widely prescribed sleep medications-about $3 for a week's supply, vs. $45 and $34 for eszopiclone (Lunesta), and ramelteon (Rozerem) for a week's supply. (The other frequently used drug, zolpidem, or Ambien, is available as a generic, at $15 for a week's worth.) And while some of the insomnia drugs like Sonata, Ambien and Lunesta are classified by the FDA as controlled substances and require doctors and pharmacists to take additional steps before they're prescribed or dispensed; trazodone is not a controlled substance, so doctors can prescribe it without constraints.
Insomnia is a prevalent sleep disorder that is sometimes referred to as "sleep insufficiency." Statistics about insomnia among Americans is available on the official website for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
