I don't know the specific answer, but probably to attract more people to buy the Xbox. Kinect is a motion sensing device, and it is fun. Mabye it is the same reason Sony invented the PlayStation move for the Ps3

Personally, I prefer the PlayStation3 Move. However, that's an opinion. Some people like the Xbox better. I think it's more of a question between the games... Xbox has Halo and PlayStation has Killzone 3 for PlayStation Move. If you get the gun for it it's amazing.
