What side is your large intestine on?

Your Colon is better known as the Large Intestine and at around 2.5m long it takes up much space within the body. It is contained within the Abdomen, but it passes through most regions (the ones when the abdomen is looked at split into 9) or all 4 quadrants (when the abdomen is looked at split into 4). The colon is usually looked at in 4 parts. The Ascending Colon is the first part and starts with the Cecum. It is from the cecum that the appendix projects and into it that the Illeum connects. The lowest part of the cecum sits in the Right Inguinal region (the lower right quadrant). The ascending colon travels up to the Hepatic Flexure (the corner) that turns it into the Transverse Colon. The hepatic flexure is in the uppermost part of the Right Lumbar Region and sometimes up in the bottom of the Right Hypochondriac region. The Transverse Colon then passes through either the bottom of the Epigastric region or the top of the Umbilicle region. It ends in the Splenic Flecture which is slightly higher than the hepatic flecture usually in the bottom of the Left Hypochondriac region or sometimes the top of the Left Lumbar region. At this flecture the colon becomes the Descending Colon which travels down to become the Sigmoid Colon. It becomes the The sigmoid colon in the Left Inguinal region where it curves to travel medialy a short distance (into the Hypogastric region) and then continues to travel down and eventually forms the rectum. Therefore it travels around the vast majority of the Abdominal Cavity and is not resticted to one side. A summary of its route is that is starts in the bottom right of the abdomen in the Cecum (where the appendix projects from) and travels up and along the top of the abdomen then down the left side then into the bottom middle where it exits through the posterior.
