The two labor unions that merged to form one large national organization were the CIO and the AFL.
Law enforcement agencies will occasionally combine, usually as a way of saving money and reducing overhead. The Las Vegas Police and Clark County Sheriff's Office did this in the 1960s, becoming the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (known locally as Metro). This is an example of a merged department.
