Video surveillance video is allowed in numerous organizations, as long as the rules are followed. They can be used in retail locations in order to try and catch shoplifters, and they can also be used in many businesses in order to monitor the employees. As long as the employees are aware that there are surveillance cameras it is legal but they should not be placed without informing the staff.

Video Surveillance Systems?

Business owners recognize the importance of video surveillance equipment in loss prevention and protection. In the past five years, video surveillance equipment business has grown from $9.2 billion to an expected $21 billion in 2010. By monitoring your business or residence, events will be recorded and archived to capture an unfortunate event, such as theft, vandalism or trespassing. Videos may assist the authorities in apprehending criminals when the crime is reported. Video surveillance systems may also act as a deterrent to criminals. Many criminals will not target a home or business with a known security system because it increases their chances of being caught on camera. Video evidence is difficult to dispute in a court of law. Most business owners select the option of having their video tapes stored at an off sight facility. Therefore, criminals will not destroy the evidence while trespassing. Business owners should place the video surveillance system in an area that will provide maximum coverage. Blind spots will give criminals the opportunity to breach security undetected. Recording audio without permission is illegal. Therefore, the camera can only record silent video. Businesses must also inform customers of a video surveillance system by law. Video footage should be as clear and crisp as possible for accurate identification of a criminal in a court of law. Businesses should purchase video surveillance cameras with a high recording frame rate in order to assure continuous motion recording. Monitoring should also be considered when purchasing a video surveillance system. Some business owners choose to monitor the video from their personal computers. This allows them to remain abreast of the security of their business regardless of where they are located. Others monitor from an office located in the business. The options vary. Most requests may be accommodated. Video surveillance may also be installed in covert locations. Criminals and customers will be aware that cameras exist on property; however, the locations will be undisclosed. Savvy criminals will find a way to circumvent the systems, but most will be deterred by its presence. Night vision cameras are also available. Video footage may still be recorded in low light or dark areas. Video surveillance proves to be a great investment for business owners.
