Weddell seals live in the oceans around the Antarctic continent.
Seals live in the Southern Ocean which surrounds the Antarctic continent. There are no seals on land.
Seals mainly live in cold places like Antarctica or in the north, although most seals live on beaches that are mild or places with marine west coast temperatures.
The Weddell Sea is located in the Southern Hemisphere. It is bound by the eastern side of the Antarctic Peninsula and is part of the Southern Ocean surrounding Antarctica.
Yes. The animals are a unique part of Antarctica. They include fish, whales, sharks, terns, penguins, Weddell, Leopard, Crabeater, squid and other seals, and fish. No animals live on the continent: it's too cold and there is no food chain. However, sea mammals and sea birds visit Antarctica's beaches to breed. Once their young are old enough to survive on their own, all animals return to the sea where they make their homes.
No seals need to live near water, for the most part they live on sea coasts, and ice shelves.
Penguins don't live in Antarctica, but they come to the beaches to breed. Penguins live in the seas.
In addition to sea life including squids, whales and sharks, seals come to the edges of the continent to mate during the spring and summer. Birds living there include arctic terns, snow petrels, and more than a dozen species of penguins. The entire coast of Antarctica has been declared a whale habitat, and there are restrictions on seal hunting as well. Most of the land wildlife areas are ice-free part of the year. There are penguin rookeries along the Antarctic Peninsula south of South America, and Emperor penguins live along the Weddell Sea. On the Pacific side, Cape Adare (on the Ross Sea) has large populations of Adelie penguins, with more than half a million on Ross Island even farther south. Seals species include the Weddell seal (confusingly found along the Ross Shelf). Leopard seals, which eat penguins, will also attack other seals as well as humans. They are found on pack ice or islands near the Adelie populations.
