The "C" pillar is the piece of metal conecting the roof to the rear quarter panel. There are 2 located on each vehicle and form the sides to the rear window. The "A" pillar is the piece of metal that connects the front quarter panel to the roof. There are 2 located on each vehicle and form the sides to the front window.

On your Ford Escape : Open the drivers door and on the end of the door or your latch pillar ( B pillar ) you will see an information sticker . One of the things it shows is the vehicle VIN ( Vehicle Identification Number ) or you can look through the front windshield from outside and on top of the dash on the drivers side there will be a metal plate with the VIN
