The majority of Americans supported the UN sanctioned war against North Korea. Both major parties supported the Korean War efforts. It helped that although US troops were the main military force in the war, soldiers from Australia, South Korea, the UK and other UN members sent troops. In 1950, when the war began, the Western powers had a fear of Soviet communism. Soviet and Chines communist support of the North Korean invasion of South Korea, shrunk the membership rolls of the US communist party.
The DEMOCRATIC PARTY, which got the US into the Korean War, subsequently lost the party's popularity which had accrued from the handling of World War II.
