Two actually. Madison was President when the British burned the building during the war of 1812 (actually burned in 1814) and Truman had the White House completely gutted and rebuilt (except for the outer stone walls) when his daughter's piano fell through the floor because of deterioration. When the British burned the White House it was said that it was painted white afterwards to mask the damage but this isn't true. The White House has been painted white since 1798. However, most of the walls had to be torn down and reconstructed (from the same stone) after the fire. The only wall that still stood was the southernmost wall

George Washington is the only President who did not ever live in the White House. He left office before it was ready to move into.
John Adams was the one who first moved into the White House, about 4 months before he had to vacate it for the new president Jefferson.

Yes, he did. The White House had to be rebuilt after the British torched in 1814 and Monroe was able to move in, in the fall of 1817.
