In the book "Tightrope" by Gillian Cross, the hyena gets caught when the protagonist, Ashley, and her friend end up trapping it inside a shed while trying to escape from the anger of a local thief who they have anger by stealing and accidentally destroying his belongings in the woods. The hyena becomes a symbol of danger and chaos in their attempts to survive and make amends for their actions.
