Once you get below the cool, calm surface that we live on, you get into the mantle, lithosphere, asthenosphere, etc. where the temperatures are so hot that rocks melt and create magma. That magma is what spews out of volcanoes. Once it cools, it creates rocks, but in the meantime, those rocks are extremely hot.
