A standard sewing machine is capable of sewing leather if the right needles are used with care. The person sewing must use a strong needle, such as a chisel-tipped needle specifically made for leather, if they wish to be successful in their sewing endeavor.

Can a Kenmore 158.13360 sew leather?

Yes, if the leather is thin enough, your needle sharp enough, and thread strong enough. Look for a thin, soft leather such as kid. It will help to change out your needle to a much sharper "leather" needle, which also has more metal between the tip and the eye, to punch through the heavy material better before pulling thread through it. You may want to use nylon filament as replacement for normal thread. You won't hurt any part of the machine proper, but be careful you don't push the motor too hard; you don't want to burn it out or break the belt. You may have to adjust the thread tensions, since the top thread will be pulling through thick material. Don't expect to sew quickly. Although your machine (a model 33) is a workhorse, leather is usually sewn on specialized machines, and you are asking it to do something a bit out of its league.

What should you use for car seats leather or velvet?

Leather. Velvet is much too soft and will quickly wear and become torn and stained. It is not nearly strong enough to use for a car seat. Leather on the other hand will withstand the constant use that car seats undergo and is much more durable.

Can a sewing machine be used for anything beside sewing?

I own a singer talent, so the following is true to my machine at least! You can buy embroidery foots from the company you bought from; this foot enables free movement of the material so you can do machine embroidery or quilting. You may have seen logos on t-shirts etc that look as though they are made from loads of tiny stitches- this is machine embroidery. The version I am talking about is when you control the machine by hand, however computerised machines can be bought when you download a logo to be embroidered from the computer. You may own a cushion or quilt. Quilting is done by sandwiching some padding between fabric; when this is sewn on it makes it puff out in places. If you buy a strong enough needle, you can use it for scrapbooking etc on paper- this gives a lovely finish!Hope this helps :-)

What is the strongest leather?

Full grain cowhide leather is considered very strong and durable because of its thickness. However another kind of very strong and lightweight leather is kangaroo leather, which many consider to be the strongest leather around. Kangaroo leather is 10 times stronger than cowhide leather. If you buy a "leather jacket" of good quality nowadays, it will likely be made of Kangaroo leather, because it retains it's toughness, though being very thin and flexible.
