All recording software packages are compatible with seven-channel sound (at the professional level, that is). Consider getting the one with the user interface you like the best.

How do you convert 2 channel sound to 5.1 sound channel?

Many surround receivers have surround simulation capability, however this is not true surround sound. Two-channel analog outputs from a DVD player can be decoded to 3 or 4 channel Dolby Surround (not the same as Dolby Digital or DTS) using the same surround receiver.

What is better Audio CD or DVD Audio?

I've been an audio engineer for the last 10 yrs. CD audio is 16 bit resolution at 44.1kHz sample rate. It is a stereo recording. This means it has a serarate left and right channel. DVD audio is 24 bit resolution at 96kHz samplerate (more than double that of CD). It is a 5.1 recording. This means that it has seprarate left and right channels, a center, left rear, and right rear channel (that's the 5 in 5.1). It also has a dedicated Low Frequency channel or "sub woofer channel" (that's the 1 in 5.1) So DVD has higher resolution and a higher sample rate with more channels that allow for surround sound where CD is not capable of doing true surround sound. Yes I know that you can play a CD in your can which has both front and rear left and right speakers, but that's not surround sound. It merely duplicates the front channels and plays them in the back. They are not dedicated surround channels like on a DVD or a 5.1 surround system.

How do you write song files in 5.1 channel output?

In order to be distributable as a surround sound project, you will need to create a Dolby Digital or DTS stream using a surround encoder. First, your multitrack program must support surround mixes. The programs that do include Apple Logic Pro, Steinberg Cubase 6, Digital Performer and Cakewalk Sonar Producer. From there, some of these programs can create a AC3 surround stream, but some others will need an external encoder, such as the Minnetonka surround encoder software.
