Since the Earth is almost exactly spherical (ball-shaped), you can travel ineither direction from the Prime Meridian and wind up in Portugal. But yourtrip will be much shorter of you travel WEST from it.
The Prime Meridian and the meridian of 180° longitude combine to forma great circle on the Earth. Each of them alone is a semi-circle.Every parallel of latitude also circles the Earth completely, but among those, only the equator is a great circle.
When you say ecliptic I assume you mean along the equator or latitude lines. Yes and no. While we know that gas giant's often form moons in this area, we have a perfect example in Uranus that shows in exo-solar systems gas giants may also form moons in other locations. In Uranus it's probably closer to the prime meridian or longitudinal lines.
Asia is the only continent completely in the Eastern hemisphere. It lies entirely to the east of the Prime Meridian.

The Prime Meridian passes completely through the northern and southern hemispheres, and it also foms part of the boundary line between the eastern and western ones so you'd have to say that it's in both of those too.
