If you mean a standard 10/100 type Network Interface Card (nic), then you connect it with a CAT5 or CAT6 cable, the connector on the end is known as an RJ45.

A Network Adaptor Card. Doesn't matter which one, as long as the protocols are the same.
the category type of the cable is usually printed on the cable itself.
The jack is called a RJ-45.

A network interface card (NIC) typically has a physical connection to a network, such as Ethernet or wireless. This connection allows the NIC to communicate with other devices on the network.
A network card is used for this purpose. Many times, you will see the abbreviation NIC used. NIC stands for Network Interface Card. There are many types of NICs that have been used in the past. For all intents and purposes, the only NIC type in use today is Ethernet cards.

Connections to a network depend on the topology and cable type you are using. If we take the most common connection it is via UTP (unshielded twisted pair) cabling, utilizing an RJ-45 connector. This connector takes 8 wires in a modular connection on the cable.Plug one end of the cable into a network interface card on your PC, and the other end to a network connection, which may be a switch, router, hub, etc. The EIA/TIA structured cabling guidelines 568A/B will tell you much more about these types of connections.
