The elliptical shape of each planetary orbit is the result of the adding together the forces of gravity, which tries to move each planet toward the sun, and inertia, which is trying to keep each planet moving in a straight line.
the force of attraction that holds atoms together is a chemical bond
WHAT HOLDS THE EARTH IN ITS ORBIT REVOLVING AROUND THE SUN?In fact the Earth's orbit is a sort of equilibrium. The Earth's revolutions around the Sun provides it with centripetal force. A force that wants to eject it out of its orbit. That same force that wants to eject you out of your car when you are in a tight bend. However (and fortunately) there exist a strong gravitational force (attracting force) between the Sun and the Earth. It happens that the centripetal force ejecting the Earth is equal and hence balances the gravitational force pulling it towards the earth. As a result the Earth continues its motion around the Sun, undisturbed. As a conclusion, I'll say that what holds the Earth around the Sun it a result of 2 forces acting opposite to each other, namely the centripetal force pulling it away from the Sun and the gravitational force pulling it towards the Sun.
the earths gravity holds the moon so it orbits the earth.
The: "Strong Force".
A Chemical Bond
Gravity from the Sun holds the planets in their orbits.
The gravitational attraction from our Sun holds the planets in orbit.
It is gravity that holds the planets in their orbits around the sun. Gravity is what gives "shape" to the solar system, to galaxies, and is the large-scale organizer of the universe as a whole.
The sun's gravity holds the planets in their orbits. It also holds other space objects in their orbits, such as asteroids.
Gravity :)
electromagnetic force
The Sun's gravity keeps the planets in their orbits. Without gravity they would all move in their own straight lines, but the central force keeps them curving inwards towards the Sun continuously, while their sideways velocity stops them falling in completely.
The suns gravity.
